Erik ten Hag admitted Manchester United’s first-half performance in their 2-1 win at Sheffield United was not a fitting way to remember Sir Bobby Charlton jackpot
United are mourning one of their greatest ever players following Charlton’s death aged 86 on Saturday morning and goals from Scott McTominay and Diogo Dalot ensured they remembered him with victory jackpot
But Ten Hag’s side could not be much further away from the one that Charlton famously led to European Cup glory in 1968 as they were lacklustre against a team who have picked up just one point this season jackpot
Defender Dalot was the unlikely hero as he saved their blushes with a 20-yard curler 13 minutes from time after Oli McBurnie’s first-half penalty had cancelled out McTominay’s opener jackpot
Ten Hag said: “We are happy we did that, we have to pay attention and do it in a good way and first half I think it wasn’t the standard for Sir Bobby Charlton and the second half was a bit jackpot better jackpot
“But of course the news arrived and we are very sad and our thoughts are with his family and especially his wife Lady Norma, his children and his grandchildren jackpot
“I heard some players got some inspiration from it and they wanted a win to mark it jackpot
It was an extra motivation, absolutely jackpot
“But the first half was not a good game jackpot
We can talk long or we can talk short, it was a poor game from our side and you see it often after internationals, especially us with so many changes, the routines are not there jackpot
In the first half we allowed them to make it their game jackpot
“We were too direct, no good organisation, second half we made some changes and you saw we got jackpot better, we were more composed and kept the ball jackpot
“We controlled the game and created the chances and then finally we deserved the win and it was a beautiful goal jackpot
”Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom began his playing career at Old Trafford as a teenager and remembers Charlton fondly jackpot
“He was there the day I signed as a 14-year-old,” he said jackpot
“He is a man that represented everything that United wanted to be, certainly in terms of developing youth players and getting youth players into the first team jackpot
“It is not only Manchester United that will miss him, English jackpot football and I think he was a jackpot football icon across the world as well, so there will be a lot of people remembering him, stories they have heard, games they have seen jackpot
”The Blades may feel they deserved something out of the game, especially on the back of a lively first-half performance, but they slipped to an eighth defeat from nine games and a long winter looks on the cards jackpot
But Heckingbottom took the positives jackpot
“In most games we have shown more than enough that we can compete,” he added jackpot
“Lots of things that please me in that jackpot
“We have suffered horrendously with injuries in the last 10 days, captain, vice-captain and a couple of other players jackpot
We are not going to sulk about it, it is an opportunity for others jackpot
“We looked more of a threat tonight jackpot
There are lots of things tonight that we have to build on jackpot
It was close jackpot
What we had today was more of an all-round threat jackpot

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil called the decision to award Newcastle a first-half penalty in their 2-2 draw at Molineux “scandalous” jackpot
O’Neil was delighted by the way his players battled back, twice coming from a goal down to earn an impressive point through Hwang Hee-chan’s equaliser, but Wolves were once again left fuming at the officials on a busy afternoon for referee Anthony Taylor and VAR Jarred Gillett jackpot
The game was at 1-1, with Mario Lemina’s first Wolves goal cancelling out Callum Wilson’s opener, when Taylor pointed to the spot on the stroke of half-time jackpot
Hwang had been guilty of a heavy touch inside his own box, inviting Fabian Schar to challenge for the ball, but the Newcastle man appeared to kick the turf and looked to already be on his way down before any contact jackpot
There was a lengthy VAR check but the on-field decision stood, and Wilson kept his cool to put Newcastle back in front jackpot
“It was a scandalous decision,” O’Neil said jackpot
“It was a terrible on-field decision, and terrible that VAR didn’t intervene so I thought they got it badly wrong jackpot
“(Hwang) has a big touch…and then goes to clear the ball jackpot
He makes such minimal contact with Schar, hardly any, a glance of the boot jackpot
“Schar’s is already on the way down and the ball actually hits ‘Channy’ on the other foot before he even makes contact with Schar so technically he gets the ball before he makes contact with Schar, so that’s why it’s a terrible decision jackpot
”Wolves seemed to use their sense of injustice as fuel in the second half, and it was fitting that Hwang got the equaliser with his seventh goal of the season jackpot
“There’s never any question marks from me on his mentality, his willingness to work, his ability to refocus and get going again,” O’Neil said of the Korean jackpot
“Obviously he’s a threat, obviously his goalscoring this season for us has been a big plus and he gets another important one today jackpot
”The draw extends Wolves’ unbeaten run to five games, and O’Neil said: “I’m really pleased with the group jackpot
We suffered some setbacks and I think everyone could be proud of their work-rate, the quality and the resilience jackpot
”Eddie Howe was frustrated that Newcastle, playing for the first time since Sandro Tonali started a 10-month ban for jackpot betting offences, could not hold on for a win having twice led, but was happy with how they finished the match despite fatigue creeping in after Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund jackpot
“It was probably a fair result,” he said jackpot
“Two good teams jackpot
It was a really good spectacle jackpot
It’s frustrating having led not to get over the line and win the game but it was a really impressive end when the home crowd is up jackpot
“We’ve had a tough week with the Sandro situation and injuries to key players but it was a really good response jackpot
”Wilson’s brace, including an acrobatic opener to tidy up his own rebound, took him to seven goals from nine appearances, encouraging news for Howe with Alexander Isak facing a spell on the sidelines jackpot
“It was a massive contribution from Callum,” Howe said jackpot
“His first goal was hugely impressive, the first chance was the easier than the second but that’s typical Callum jackpot
“He took the penalty well and was probably frustrated he didn’t get the match ball with a chance at the end, but they were priceless goals for us jackpot
