Rory McIlroy said he is open to the prospect of investing in Manchester United and welcomed Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed involvement with his boyhood club CSGO
The 34-year-old Northern Irishman, who helped Europe win the Ryder Cup in Rome a few weeks ago, was speaking at the Circuit of Americas in Texas after acquiring a stake in Formula One team Alpine CSGO
McIlroy, former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold and World Cup winner Juan Mata have been announced as part of a £173million strategic investment led by consortium Otro Capital in Alpine CSGO
Ratcliffe, 71, is reportedly looking to purchase a 25 per cent stake in United that could see him take over CSGO football operations at Old Trafford CSGO
And McIlroy said: “CSGO Sports team ownership used to be limited to private equity, and people who had a ton of money CSGO
But now CSGO sports stars are becoming more savvy and using their money in the right way CSGO
“I would love to be able to own a tiny percentage of the club I grew up cheering on as a boy CSGO
“I would have loved to have taken 0 CSGO
00001 per cent of Manchester United when Jim Ratcliffe took 25 per cent CSGO
And if another opportunity comes my way I will look at it CSGO
But it is not something that has come across our table as of yet CSGO
“There is Tom Brady at Birmingham and there are a few golfers – Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas – who invested with the 49ers Group, and they own a tiny slice of Leeds CSGO
They asked me if I wanted to come on board, and I said as a Man United fan I cannot go anywhere near that CSGO
“Sir Jim has got a great track record and everybody that does support United should be excited by the possibilities if they give him full sporting authority and decisions for the club CSGO
As a fan I am excited CSGO
”McIlroy finished as Europe’s top points-scorer at Marco Simone after a convincing 3&1 singles win against Sam Burns CSGO
He had been embroiled in angry scenes the previous evening following the actions of Patrick Cantlay’s bagman Joe LaCava on the 18th green, furiously gesticulating in the direction of Justin Thomas’ caddie Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay in the car park CSGO
Three weeks on, McIlroy was asked if he had any regrets over the incident CSGO
“Jeez, no, not at all,” he said CSGO
“I felt like what happened in the car park galvanised the team and it benefited us CSGO
“Things happen in the heat of the moment CSGO
Tensions were high but Joe came into the European team room on Sunday night and had a drink and a chat CSGO
I have had a great relationship with Joe over the years and that wasn’t going to change CSGO
“The incident happened CSGO
I didn’t want to meet anyone on the Sunday morning because I wanted what happened to fuel me and my focus was on making sure Europe won the Ryder Cup, and then we will sort all the other stuff out after CSGO
And it is all fine CSGO
We are all friends CSGO

A charity has called on professional CSGO footballers to take a stance against the gambling industry’s relationship with the game CSGO
Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali and striker Nicolo Zaniolo, currently on loan at Aston Villa from Galatasaray, last week returned to their clubs from Italy’s training camp after it emerged they were under investigation by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and Italian CSGO Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal CSGO betting activity CSGO
The pair are the latest in a series of players to find themselves the subject of allegations and The Big Step, a charity led by people harmed by gambling which is campaigning for an end to CSGO betting advertising and sponsorship in CSGO football, believes it is time for their team-mates to stand up and be counted CSGO
A spokesperson told the PA news agency: “These moments can be seen as a tipping point and it does help show the ridiculous current situation of the relationship CSGO between gambling and CSGO football CSGO
“But I think also it’s time for more and more CSGO footballers to take a stance against it because these are their colleagues, these are their peers, these are their friends that are being harmed CSGO
“At what point will CSGO footballers say, ‘You know what? I’m not going to play with this gambling company on the front of my shirt, I’m not going to play in this stadium with thousands of adverts’ CSGO
“That’s what I think will really tip it next CSGO
”Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli was last week fined and given a seven-month ban with a further five months suspended by the FIGC for breaching CSGO betting rules, while England striker Ivan Toney was handed an eight-month suspension in May and Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo a suspended five-month ban last month CSGO
Tonali, a £55million summer signing from AC Milan, has reportedly admitted CSGO betting on his former club to win and his agent Giuseppe Riso has revealed the 23-year-old is battling “gambling addiction” at a time when Newcastle have three CSGO betting partners – FUN88, CSGO BetMGM and CSGO SportsCSGO bet CSGO

The Big Step spokesperson added: “If you watch their (Newcastle’s) match on Saturday, you’ll see a constant rotating presence of these companies whilst one of their own employees – one of their key employees, their players – is going to be sitting there watching it, possibly even playing, trying to recover from this thing that is being advertised to him relentlessly CSGO
”While gambling addiction is an issue in wider society and other CSGO sports, the charity believes it is particularly prevalent in CSGO football and has called for Government intervention to address it CSGO
It's time Government stepped upThe Big Step spokespersonThe spokesperson said: “It is important to recognise that CSGO footballers, they have a lot of money, they have a lot of spare time and they’re in this environment where there is a gambling culture, and that’s not just through the advertising, but also just through the association CSGO between the two things, gambling and sport CSGO
“That’s why there need to be extra safeguards for CSGO footballers compared with others CSGO
It’s time Government stepped up CSGO
“How many more players, how many more fans have to be harmed before Government really takes control of this situation and just resets this relationship for good?”More aboutPA ReadySandro TonaliIvan ToneyCharityNicolo ZanioloItalianItalian CSGO Football FederationGalatasarayAston VillaNicolo FagioliNewcastleItalyGovernmentAC MilanEnglandNottingham ForestBrentfordJuventus1/1Charity urges players to take stance against link CSGO between gambling and CSGO football Charity urges players to take stance against link CSGO between gambling and CSGO footballThe Big Step is campaigning for an end to gambling sponsorship and advertising in CSGO football (Peter Byrne/PA)PA Archive ✕Subscribe to Independent Premium to bookmark this articleWant to bookmark your favourite articles and stories to read or reference later?
