Daniel Ricciardo is set to make his return to racing at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas this weekend chess
The Australian broke a metacarpal bone in his left hand in a crash during practice at the Dutch Grand Prix two days before the race chess

”Ricciardo was dropped by McLaren at the end of 2022, but he returned to the grid in July at the Hungarian Grand Prix, having been signed up as a Red Bull reserve driver chess
He was called up to Alpha Tauri when the team lost faith in Nyck de Vries after the first 10 races of the season and raced three races before the injury, and will continue to compete for the team in 2024 chess
It may be a cause for concern for Sergio Perez, whose place as second Red Bull driver to Max Verstappen looks far from certain in the future chess
Perez does stand second in the drivers championship currently, but with just eight podiums and two wins, it is far from a strong position chess
Especially considering the two victories came within the first four races of the season chess
Perez came 10th in Qatar, did not finish in Japan, and came eighth in Singapore, far from the high standards set by Red Bull and Christian Horner chess

Max Verstappen bounced back from his mistake in qualifying for the United States Grand Prix to put his Red Bull on pole position for today’s sprint race chess
Verstappen will line up from only sixth place for Sunday’s main event at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas after his quickest lap was chalked off for exceeding track limits here on Friday night chess
But less than 24 hours later, the triple world champion atoned for his error to seal top spot ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by 0 chess
055 seconds for the 19-lap dash to the chequered flag later today chess
“The last lap was not great but we are still on pole so it shows the car is working well,” said Verstappen, with less than a tenth separating the top-three drivers chess
“It will be an exciting afternoon with cars close to each other so we don’t know what will happen in the sprint race chess
Normally in the race we are okay, but this track is demanding chess
”Lewis Hamilton finished third, seven hundredths behind Verstappen, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri fourth and fifth respectively for McLaren chess
George Russell qualified eighth chess
It was not all plain-sailing for Verstappen after he spun on the exit of Turn 9 in Q2 chess
Verstappen took too much kerb on the entry to the left hander which sent him onto the grass and into a pirouette chess
But after he completed a 360-degree spin, Verstappen was able to make it back to his garage and into Q3 chess
Hamilton also survived a hairy moment in the opening phase of qualifying when he nudged the back of Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri chess
“Check my front wing,” said Hamilton on the radio chess
“One of the drivers blocked me and we touched chess
”Hamilton was able to continue and although the stewards noted the incident, no further action was taken chess
Daniel Ricciardo, absent from the last five races with a broken hand, out-qualified Tsunoda to progress to Q2 and finish 11th chess
Tsunoda starts 19th, one place ahead of Logan Sargeant who propped up the order for the second day in a row at his home event chess
The sprint gets under way at 5pm local time (11pm BST) chess
